Clipboard Manager — Privacy Policy

Clipboard Manager ("the extension") is a browser extension that saves, organizes, and lets you reuse the text and images you copy. This policy explains what the extension does with your data. In short: everything stays on your own device, and nothing is ever sent to us or to any third party.

What the extension handles

To provide its features, the extension processes, on your device only:

• Text and images you copy or explicitly save, along with metadata you create (pins, tags, folders, templates, snippet triggers) and, for each clip, the title and address of the page it was copied from.
• Your extension settings and preferences.

Where your data is stored

All of the above is stored locally in your browser using the Chrome storage API (chrome.storage.local). If you set a passcode, your saved clips are encrypted at rest using AES-GCM with a key derived from your passcode (PBKDF2). The key is held only in session memory and is discarded when the browser closes.

What we collect and share

Nothing. The extension has no servers, no accounts, and no analytics. It does not transmit, sell, rent, or share your data with us or with any third party. Your data never leaves your device.

Permissions and why they are used

• Storage / unlimited storage — keep your clip history and settings on your device.
• Clipboard (read/write) — read the system clipboard when you choose to save it, and write a saved clip back when you copy or paste it.
• Scripting and host access to websites — capture the text you copy, insert a snippet you choose into the current field, and expand snippet triggers as you type. These act only in response to your own actions, and no browsing activity or page content is collected or transmitted.
• Context menus and alarms — provide the right-click "save selection" option and run periodic local cleanup of old clips.

Privacy protections

• Text copied from password fields is never saved.
• Credit-card-like numbers can be automatically skipped or masked.
• You can disable capture entirely on specific websites.
• You can set a passcode to encrypt your saved clips.

Data retention and deletion

Your data remains on your device until you delete it. You can remove individual clips, clear everything from the extension's settings, enable automatic expiry of old clips, or uninstall the extension — uninstalling removes all stored data.

Children

The extension is not directed to children and does not knowingly handle data from children.

Changes to this policy

If the extension's data practices change (for example, if optional cross-device sync is added in the future), this policy will be updated and the "last updated" date revised. Continued use after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
