Web Spotlight browser extension ยท Effective July 20, 2026

๐Ÿ”’ No data collected ยท Everything stays on your device
Web Spotlight is designed to be private by default. This policy explains what the extension accesses, why, and what happens to that information. In short: the extension does not collect, transmit, sell, or share any of your data. Everything stays on your device.

Summary

What the extension accesses, and why

To provide a unified search across your browser, Web Spotlight accesses the following locally, on your device only:

How this information is used

This information is used solely to display search results and to open or save pages at your request, in real time, within your browser. It is never transmitted off your device.

Data storage

Bookmarks, tags, and notes you create are stored using your browser's local extension storage (chrome.storage.local) on your computer. You can view, filter, and delete them at any time from the extension's options page. Removing the extension deletes this data.

Data sharing and selling

We do not:

Permissions

The extension requests only the permissions needed for its search-and-save features: storage, bookmarks, tabs, history, activeTab, scripting, favicon, and host access to display its overlay on the pages you visit. Each is used exclusively for the local, on-device functionality described above.

Changes to this policy

If the extension's data practices ever change (for example, if optional cloud sync were added in the future), this policy will be updated before that functionality ships, and the change will be reflected on the extension's store listing.
